The OpenAI rival has informed investment bankers of its intent to acquire startups that can enhance its AI models, technical capabilities, and product diversification beyond its Core coding tools. Founded in 2021 by ex-OpenAI employees, Anthropic currently generates over $400 million monthly from its Claude AI models, serving clients like Anysphere and Harvey.

The company’s expansion plans include venturing into software testing, design, and industry-specific solutions for finance, healthcare, and cybersecurity. This MOVE mirrors OpenAI’s aggressive $6.4 billion stock-based acquisition strategy over the past 16 months. Anthropic’s corporate development team is now actively laying the groundwork for targeted deals.
